Tried to go beyond the 3km mark today, whilst trying to consistently sustain my pace. Wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but at least I accomplished my distance set of at least 3km.

Wasn't a good evening to run, coz I was suffering from hunger pangs at around 5:30pm. Went home to nibble on a biscuit and some milk, before leaving the house for the run.

Total bad idea. Despite giving myself some 15 minutes to clear the "nibbles", and taking a small bottle of Fancl Perfect Slim Drink in hopes of burning more calories (with aid of the L-carnitine and garcinia extract in the drink), I found myself having some serious sloshing in the stomach half way through, that led to some partial cramps. But I persisted, shutting the discomfort away by concentrating on the music blasting into my ears from my iPod. That helped as a whole, coz I bettered my total distance and total time, though pace was slightly affected by the sloshing.

Didn't manage to run for the rest of the week, so I told Hubba that we had to do so by hook or by crook today. Especially since he is due for his IPPT soon. The rain in the morning spoilt our plans at first, but as the weather seemed to continue to be cloudy the rest of the day, we decided to go for an early run in the evening instead and enjoy the nice cool weather in the open.

After a week's hiatus from running, decided I couldn't procrastinate anymore. So I texted Hubba while having a meeting (oops) to tell him that I was gonna run tonight, and he could join me if he wanted too.

As usual, Hubba was gamed, coz it gave him a chance to train up for his coming IPPT. However, as both of us were caught up in meetings, it meant that we would be running round the estate rather than at the sports stadium. Which was fine by me, coz I wanted to see if I could run at least 2.4km without the usual warm up walk to the stadium, as what I was used to doing.

As a whole, didn't find the run that bad, despite a week's hiatus. Stamina was still good and I would have gone on further, if not for Hubba having finished his sprint-endurance training super early.

After the work out, we set off for a late dinner. Originally, we had decided to have prata and briyani at Simpang Bedok. But en route, we changed our minds and decided to try this cosy place along Jalan Pari Burong called Foo House, which my dad had once recommended some time back.

The interior was rather homely, and had this lovely retro feel about it.

Despite having just ran, I wasn't that hungry. It took us some time to decide on what we wanted order, which is a first for us, since I usually decide the fastest.

Hubba's Root Beer Float

My Hamburger Steak, with mashed potatoes and extra side of caramelized onions

Hubba's order of Hainanese Pork Chop with rice and bak choi

My non-alcoholic Mojito, with loads of lovely mint sprigs

The food was super delicious, and it made Hubba a little sentimental, as the pork chop reminded him of his late grandma's cooking. Although not presented in some "atas" way, the cooking however had this homely feel about it, and it made me feel like the food was made with lots of love. This was probably also contributed by the very homely atmosphere as well, as the decor around us was made up of things one would usually see in used as decor in someone's home. The feel-good emotion and yummy homely food was enough to earn a thumbs up from Hubba and me, and we both knew this would definitely not be our last visit to this makan place.

Just when we were totally filled up and waiting to pay up, I spied on a rather interesting poster behind me, that very much described what I would have loved to ingest after the very filling meal:

Very fitting for people like us who have just finished indulging and have problem digesting.

Headed out for a run today with Hubba after work. I think I'm starting to get into the running mood... been quite consistent over the last 3 weeks. Might be due to Hubba having to prepare for his IPPT, so in a way we are motivating each other. Find it helps to destress also... which is pretty good since work has been stressful lately.

Did myself proud today, coz I finally managed to complete 6 rounds around the track continuously, without stopping. A feat for someone who has not been running regularly since JC/Uni days. Further more, I actually ran on the outer lanes, at quite a consistent pace, so I'm quite happy with my achievement. Next up will be to improve and go beyond. :) Especially my breathing... I don't quite have a good breathing technique when running.

Total distance: 5.7km (First walked 2+km to the stadium, then ran the rest of the distance, except last 300m was a cool down walk)
Total time: 48'48" (Nice number, can go buy 4D)
Pace: 8'33"/km (Averaged around 6'31"/km during the run)
Calories: 352

After the very good exercise, Hubba thought of pigging out at a nearby coffee shop that served one of the best zi char in Tampines. There he ordered XO Fish Soup with bee hoon, while I had Sam Low Hor Fun. And between the two of us, we shared a plate of prawn paste chicken wings!!! Ultimate sin! All these was washed down by a sinful pack of Ribena for me, and a glass of Bandung for him.

There goes all the work out... :( I think we might have to schedule another run on Saturday/Sunday to make up for this sinful meal.

Went for a run with Hubba after work. Somehow the body isn't the same after recovering from the flu. Took extra effort to cover the distance, and in the end, I was still almost a good kilometre short of my previous distance. :(

Total distance covered: 4.66km (Walk & jog)
Total time: 43'02"
Pace: 9'14"/km
Calories: 288

Took a slow walk back home to pick up some cash (silly of us to forget to bring cash out) before re-heading out to the nearby coffee shop for some good old Astons.

Hubba's Super Burger, beef patty, deep fried onions, bacon, lettuce, salad cream and tomatoes in between burger buns, with a side of fried onion rings.

My order of prime ribeye beef steak, normal cut, with a side of garden veggie and a side of pasta salad.

Now that I've had a good work out, and an equally fulfilling dinner, wondering if I should just call it a night and head off to Dreamland...

Despite the drippy nose alternating with nasal congestion, Hubba and I woke up early to sweat it out with a jog.

Didn't dare to push myself today for fear of aggravating the ankle. (Funny thing about the ankle is, its ok when I walk on flat ground, but when I go down the stairs or squat, the pain hits me all of a sudden.) Also I think I wasn't well prepared coz I started feeling thirsty even before I got to the track, that caused me to choke after 3 rounds, making me lose my momentum. :|

After a hiatus from my last run in Feb, due to my falling sick yet again, I made myself head down to the gym yesterday after work and did a good workout. At least I am still feeling the effects of pushing myself yesterday.

Had to go buy myself a pair of shoes first, before I started my workout, coz my old pair of running shoes had opened a gaping hole after going through the intense team-building session last week. Headed down to the Royal Sporting House in Parkway Parade when I reached the gym, only to be waylaid by the Adidas Shop's sale.

More about my buy )

With this purchase, I immediately started wearing the new shoes, and chucked my old ones in the box. The sales person actually offered to dispose off the shoes for me, but I decided to keep them, just in case I had another crazy session of team building, for which I was not going to sacrifice my new expensive running shoes.

Run done using my new pair of Adistar Ride

Feel quite proud of myself, coz I ran flat out on the treadmill without pausing. Although, I'm pretty sceptical of my iPod Nike+ calibration coz it didn't track the same distance as the treadmill. In fact, it was 1km difference (treadmill reading was 2.4km). Anyhow, have reset the calibration and shall see how it performs for the next run.

I better make sure that the next run is not another month away... don't wanna waste my new pair of shoes. :P Oh, and many thanks to the sales person at the Adidas Store at Parkway who helped me with my purchase. Pity I didn't get his name; really ought to commend him on his excellent recommendation and service. Well, all I can say is, to anyone who wants to buy a good pair of sports shoes you should go down to that store for his help.

After a three-month hiatus, I finally put on those running shoes again and got my feet moving, albeit a not so good morning due to a cranky me after having a crazy nightmare and a grouchy hubby who was itching to start out without me.

Duration: 38'30"
Pace: 8'35"/km

Felt pretty okay after the walk/jog, except that my knee injury came back to haunt me part of the way. Think I will have to take things real slow in order not to aggravate it.

The original plan was to try to wrap up my work by 6:30pm latest, and then head home to change for a jog before ending the evening with the laundry.

No such luck. The morning was totally crazy, with scheduled visit by a customer, requiring my presence for most part, giving me less than an hour to check my morning mail which had accumulated to more than 30 new mails in the inbox just in a span of half a day. Took time to actually check through the mail, before going for a late lunch.

The afternoon was equally crazy, with unexpected guests popping by, which meant that my presence was required again to entertain them. Only managed to breathe after 5pm to discuss some issues with some of my staff, before I could actually settle down at the laptop at 6pm to scan through the mails from the remainder half of the day, which possibly came up to another 30 odd mails. Ended up working more than an hour overtime to settle all the pressing issues so that I could have less to conquer for the coming days when I would be out of office half a day for both days.

Have a suspicion that the laptop would be coming home with me this long weekend, despite my best efforts in attempting to complete all work at the office so that I could have a clean break for work life at home. It simply is not possible to achieve that this week...

After yesterday's run cum yoga sesh, my body was screaming for mercy.

The dull aching slowly intensified throughout the day and I think inadvertently made up my mind not to go for my morning jog last night by okay-ing a midnight show. Pretty obviously coz I knew that without sufficient sleep, my body would protest to waking up early in the morning for another round of torture.

Don't regret it though coz last night's show, Tropic Thunder, was really worth the $$$ spent. With the star-studded cast, the show provided in-your-face kind of entertainment with crude jokes that most guys could identify with. And gosh... I actually laughed so much that my sides ached as bad as they usually do after yoga, which worsened the muscle aches as a result.

Will try to make up for it I guess... maybe go for a short jog or maybe utilise those bicycles later in the evening. But first, go away, aches and pains...

Did the running warm up again this morning before my usual hot yoga sesh.

Think I pushed my muscles a little too much the last run coz I started feeling my shin/calf muscles way too early, before I hit my first km. Started to slow down to a brisk walk for a while, before resuming a slow jog pace. After the muscles got warmed up and the body got used to the lactic acid build-up, the run got easier and I was able to increase the pace.

I hit my fastest km today at 6'53"! :)

Somehow I think my jogging pace is as fast as my brisk walk pace, from the constant shape of the graph. Hmph...

Hot yoga sesh was good... Anil gave us some new position to try today, and I was able to improve on my flexibility. Only thing is I started getting cramps in my metatarsals mid way... which made me ease off slightly during the warrior 2 and plank poses.

Think having high arch is really irritating, coz I'm always prone to getting cramps in my metatarsals and twisting my ankles. Wonder, if and when I need to get a new pair of running shoes, I can get one to fit and support my high arch...

Took a different approach this evening and decided to run to the stadium and then continue from there round the track.

Some personality (the name I didn't catch) congratulated me for attaining my farthest run. :)

No prizes for guessing that it was a jog-and-walk affair, but I do think that it's getting better. I still feel the burn from the lactic acid build-up, but it isn't as bad as when I first started last week. Admittedly, it seems to be a little more attainable with each jog, and I find myself being more encouraged to continue this routine.

Only thing I still need to improve on is my breathing... really find it very discouraging when I start gasping for breath! Advice anyone?

I managed to calibrate my Nike+ after all.

Found out by accident that the reason why the sensor was not detecting well was coz it kept slipping into the shoe. Sighz... Read from some forum that the sensor is meant to be kept as near parallel to the ground as possible in order to get the best results.

Lesson learnt: Must tie my laces tight-tight to ensure that the sensor doesn't slip in again... nor fall out.

Today's run:

Plus calibration run: 0.4km

Total distance: 2.21km
Total time: ~16mins

Plus... I heard Tiger Woods congratulate me for achieving my fastest mile @ 12' 05"!! Yay!

After realising my Nike+ wasn't reflecting my true distance covered, I decided to go jog at the track this morning to calibrate it. Ya, silly old me took it for granted that I needn't do calibration coz the instruction manual said so...

Took me 4 tries to calibrate it properly. Somehow I think the sensor wasn't able to read properly when I ran, as opposed to when I was walking. Walking calibration didn't pose any problems. But when I ran 400m, it only clocked the distance as 150m! This happened three times! The last time round, I actually ran an extra 10+m just so that it could close the gap up to complete the calibration, as the past three trys were rejected due to distance difference.

Perhaps next time round I'll monitor it by running on the track or treadmill...

Distance ran: 1.6km
Time: 10 mins
Distance walked: 0.4km
Time: 4 mins
