New flip flops

My barely 6-month-old Ripples flip flops started having their own ‘”mouths” just some time last month but I didn’t get around to buying replacements coz of the Lunar New Year. Shoes are known as “hai” in Cantonese, which also sounds like the word “rough”, so buying shoes during the Lunar New Year would signify that you would have a rough year ahead? Something to that effect. Anyway, better to be safe than sorry, so I respected this age-old superstition and kept off looking for replacements till today.
